Description
Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) protects users against oxygen deficiency, dust, gases, and vapors. SCBA training is required for anyone who may use or oversee others using this life-saving equipment.
Our SCBA training is provided as part of our Confined Space Rescue training and the equipment familiarization elements; however, it can be delivered as a stand-alone training session as well. Participants will learn the skills required to safely inspect, maintain, and operate a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Learning objectives include:
- Determining what hazards may exist within various atmospheres
- How to assess risk and determine the best work method using the hierarchy of controls
- Review of SCBA components
- How to inspect an SCBA
- How to test an SCBA
- How to use and wear the SCBA. Note: Participants will need to be clean-shaven for this portion of the practical training
- Things you need to consider when using an SCBA while working or during a rescue event
- Review of the basic requirements of a respiratory protection program
We prefer to train your workers using the equipment they are likely to use, but if required, we can provide the training using our SCBA equipment if you don’t have your own.
Please note that this is an equipment familiarization course.
Quantitative fit testing is required to use an SCBA, which is not provided as part of this course. If you require quantitative fit testing for your SCBA, this must be done as a separate event.
This training takes between two and four hours to complete, depending on the class size and if we will be providing additional training. If this program is being taken as part of the Confined Space Rescue Program, additional material will be covered that may extend the timing of this program. Your dedicated Account Manager will work with you to ensure the best possible experience.
