Description

This workshop is a hands-on workshop that would see the participants of the course enter a confined space and conduct a rescue.

As part of the workshop, the following elements may be required to be done prior to performing a rescue:

  1. The instructor will review your company’s Confined Space Policy and procedures, including the risk assessment that will be used to complete a confined space entry permit.
  2. Provide training on how to plan for rescue within a confined space. This would include a review of the hazards of the confined space and how those hazards may affect how your rescue may play out. As part of this training element, the instructor will review with the participants any company-specific rescue procedures.
  3. Review of the equipment that may be required as part of the rescue process.  This may include the use of SCBA, air monitoring equipment, along with equipment such as tripods and hoists.
  4. Additional training on the use and maintenance of any equipment being used as part of the rescue.
  5. Provide additional training on equipment such as SCBA and understanding how to read the air monitoring equipment. Additional time and cost may apply.

Once we have completed all risk assessments and have planned for the rescue, we will enter the confined space and facilitate the rescue of an unconscious person.

Please note-

  • Prior to any planning for this kind of workshop, a safety consultant will consult with the client to discuss what kinds of confined spaces their workers typically go into and how we would best practice a mock rescue. A plan will be developed that is dependent on the risk involved in the mock rescue.
  • If the company does not have a written confined space policy and procedure, including a written rescue procedure, we may request that one be drawn up or updated prior to this kind of workshop.
  • If it is felt that a mock rescue may cause injury to a person, we will rescue a weighted object such as a hockey bag.
  • All rescue equipment must be provided by the client on the day of the workshop.
  • All persons involved in the confined space assessments, signing off on permits or entering the confined space, including the stand-by persons, must have taken confined space awareness training within the past 3 years.
