Proper lockout/tagout procedures are a means of safeguarding employees from injury or death caused by accidental start-up of machinery – whether mechanized or energized. This course provides participants with a combination of legislative procedures, specific job site requirements and a ‘common-sense’ application to proper lockout/tagout.

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify the purpose of lockout/tagout
  • Understand basic lockout/tagout terminology
  • Define the general legislative requirements concerning lockout/tagout
  • Identify hazardous energy sources
  • Recognize the dangers of working on “energized” equipment
  • Identify when lockout/tagout must be applied
  • Understand the lockout/tagout six-step procedure
  • Identify common lockout devices
  • Identify “authorized” and “affected” individuals (e.g. employers, supervisors, workers, contractors) responsible for lockout/tagout
